Candle info

Is the flame on the candle burning too high? Has an ice-like pattern formed along the edges? Here you will find all the information you need about our candles, and if you still have any questions, just contact us!

All candles are made from natural soy wax and the decorations are made from gel wax or a mix of soy & gel wax. The scents are paraben and phthalate free but may contain substances that you are sensitive to, i.e. allergens, you can find more about the scents here .

General care
Never leave a lit candle unattended. Do not let the candle burn near children, pets or anything that can catch fire. Always leave at least 10cm between burning candles. Do not place the candle on a flammable surface, the candle can become very hot.
To avoid tunneling, let the candle burn for about 2.5 hours the first time. Do not let the candle burn for more than 4 hours. If the flame is too large and touches the glass, extinguish the candle immediately and contact info@caramiacandles.com. Extinguish
the candle when there is 5mm of wax left and do not light it again.

If the flame is too high
The biggest reason is that the wick is too tall and this often happens after one or two burnings. Either snip off a piece with your fingers or use candle scissors (or nail scissors!).

If the light goes out by itself
Same thing here, now the wick is too tall and is not able to collect enough fuel (wax). Either snip off a piece with your fingers or use candle scissors (or nail scissors!).

You should never need to trim the wick the first time you light it as we trim it to the optimal length. However, if it still burns high even though you have trimmed it, extinguish the candle and contact us.

Ice pattern and cloudy surface
Soy wax is a natural substance and can therefore react in different ways. The important thing is that it does not affect how the candle burns, but rather its appearance.
When it gets colder, especially during the winter, the wax shrinks and therefore sometimes comes loose from the glass. During manufacturing we are very careful with the temperature of the glass and the wax when we pour and how the candle is then stored. Nevertheless, this loosening can occur during transport or if you leave the candle in a cold window.
Soy wax also has a tendency to become cloudy on the surface after burning, especially if it has burned for an extra long time and has formed a deep pool. As mentioned, this is not dangerous and just a sign that you have a naturally scented candle.

Burning times and tunneling
Our candles burn for about 75 hours in total and we recommend that you keep them lit for 3-5 hour intervals. If you let the candle burn for a shorter time, say one or two hours, it will not have time to burn to its full diameter. After a few burnings, tunneling will occur and eventually the candle will not be able to stay lit any longer.

Since our candles are so large and tall, we have expected tunneling for the first ~35 hours and then the candle will automatically start to melt the candle on the sides as it gets so hot in the glass.

If you unexpectedly need to turn off the light earlier and notice that it is starting to become a real tunnel, you can scrape off the outermost layer of wax with, for example, a spoon.
